About

MycoBim’s mission is to improve wellbeing and sustainability leveraging the transformative power of fungi. We plan to establish a mycological community in Barbados, working with fungi as an ally to promote education, enterprise and environmental awareness on the island. To achieve this, we have created a series of immersive training experiences to foster a deeper understanding and practical knowledge of the broad field of mycology. We have a future vision to establish the island's pioneer mushroom academy which will stand as the cornerstone of our mission.

Meet the Founders

MycoBim, created by Darren Le Baron, serves as a cornerstone in his collaborations with co-creator Errol McCollin, as they continue to pioneer advancements in mycological education and community engagement on a global scale.

Our Priorities

We’re proudly prioritising development and solutions for these five key problem areas;

Education

Health & Wellbeing

Environment

Food Security

Economic Opportunities

Education: Promote awareness and understanding of the benefits of mushrooms through accredited training, community workshops, nutritional programs, and public awareness campaigns. This includes educating the public on sustainable practices, waste management, and the nutritional benefits of mushrooms.

Health & Wellbeing: Enhance physical and mental health by promoting the consumption of mushrooms, and the use of functional mushrooms to reduce and manage the prevalence of noncommunicable diseases.

Environment: Implement sustainable agricultural practices, such as using spent mushroom substrate as a natural fertiliser and employing mushrooms for bioremediation projects to clean contaminated environments. Support biodiversity through mushroom cultivation practices that create microhabitats.

Food Security: Establish local mushroom farms to ensure a steady and local supply of mushrooms, reducing dependency on imports. Increase the volume and variety of mushrooms grown to diversify food sources, thereby enhancing food security.

Economic Opportunities: Create economic opportunities by developing a mushroom cultivation industry that provides jobs and supports local economies. Implement waste-to-resource programs that turn agricultural and organic waste into valuable resources, contributing to economic sustainability.
